Character Information
Name: Serah Farron
Canon: Final Fantasy XIII-2
Canon Point: End of the game :)
Age: 21
CRAU: She has, but no CRAU for this game.
CRAU Info: N/A
Personal History (OC/Malleable Protags): Right here!
Appearance: one, two, three. She's very Pink.
Current Condition: Dead :) Waking up with the fae wasn't on her bingo card.
Abilities: Serah is capable of casting magic due to the influence of fal'Cie and at the end of the first game, all of that magic seeping into Gran Pulse. This magic includes both offensive, defensive, support, and curative magicks due to being able to Paradigm Shift (Ravager, Medic, Synergist, Saboteur roles specifically; Commando also uses some offensive magic, and Sentinal has an ability that is likely magically aligned to heal with Mediguard.) A full list of her abilities and roles are here.
She also can see brief blips of the future, much like Yeul, due to the Eyes of Etro. It slowly drains her life, but this would not be happening in Expiation (most likely) seeing as how she doesn't really want to die again, and Etro has no power in here. She has some weapon knowledge and can fight if need be— Mog, a gift from Lightning from Valhalla, is capable of shifting from moogle form to her bowsword (as mentioned on the TDM questions thread) and it's lightweight enough for her to use in either of its forms. Any other weapons may not be useable by her immediately. As per the questions, Mog will not be with her, but the bow version will be found... eventually.
The last thing that is unclear where the ability came from, either a blessing of Etro or with her newfound paradox powers, is her ability to control creatures - after encounters in the wild, sometimes Serah will befriend what was once her enemy. It's a little like Pokemon, but with the wild creatures of Gran Pulse and Cocoon. It doesn't work for everything, but she does have some sway with them to get them befriended. She treats them well, praising them for healing or protecting them, and always trying to help them if they're hurt. Understandable if this doesn't carry over, I don't think I've used it in games anyway.
Inventory: The clothes on her back, Lightning's knife, Snow's engagement necklace, the crystal tear, a few potions... and Mog, of course— wait, no, Mog isn't here. :') Hopefully the fae will give her her weapons, at least!
Personality: Please pick five (5) of these questions to answer! Please try to keep answers between 100-300 words for each question.
❧ How does your character handle stressful situations?
Compartmentalizing almost everything, and doing her best to focus on what would actually solve it. It doesn't mean she'd not feel the effects of stress bearing down on her, far from it; but she does try to stay as calm as possible. Does it mean she doesn't panic? No, she can and will (see: being taken back into the Vestige and all that) but in plenty of stressful situations in 13-2, she does try to stay level-headed and calm; chief example being when she's separated from Noel by Caius and almost trapped in the Beyond for a bit: she assesses her whereabouts, notes that Mog is... kind of there, and looks around first. When she meets with Caius, she does try to stay as on guard as possible before fighting him, though it's incredibly stressful (and scary!) for her to do so.
❧ What would you consider their biggest flaw/weakness?
The need to help. Everyone. Ever.
Was there danger when New Bodhum was under attack the night everything started? Was she terrified? She sure was. But once Noel talked some sense into her, even with urgency, her need to help the people, and help NORA help the people, kicked in. Knowing the plight of the people in Noel's time, that everyone dies? Hmm, best sort that out too. Doing it at the cost of her life? Worth it, if it means people can be saved. While she doesn't realize that her final vision (and that she'll even have one at the end of everything) will actually do that, she still is willing to go down to the wire to save everyone she can. If it means she comes close to death, so be it.
❧ What does home mean to your character? When was the last time they were home and how will they deal with being away?
"Home" means being with her friends and those she loves. It's not really a place, home is where she's happiest with NORA, Snow, Lightning, and where she can see her friends like Hope and Sazh again. Being away from her home (the roof over her head kind) makes her sad, but she knew it was necessary to do what she needed to do; the same would apply for being in a new place as well: if the chance to go back happens, then she'll strive to see her home again as a goal.
She does have the ability to visit, popping in and out of the timeline, and most of the time she's told it hasn't been long since she left for her friends, though for Serah it's been some time. She gets the chance to see her home 700 years in the future, and it does make her sad... but that's ehy she'd do anything to protect it, so she can go back.
❧ What lie does your character tell themselves the most often? What lie do they tell other people?
"I'm fine." Both to herself and to others. Serah is incredibly good at masking her actual feelings and excels at telling herself and others that see, she's fine. It's fine. Everything is fine. It can bubble up and overflow eventually, as it does after she's branded a l'Cie: her emotions get the better of her eventually , and she spills everything to Snow about what happened. Even until the end does she tell herself and Noel she's fine, after every vision from Etro does she say it, even when she's not— the more you say it, the more it's true, right? It's an easy way to continue on in her convictions if she keeps telling herself "I'm fine."
❧ What does your character want most, and what do they need most?
Serah is pretty simple in her wants after the events of FFXIII: Her family to be together again, to find her sister, and to marry Snow. To live a happy life together, helping the people she loves and the people of Bodhum.
What she really needs is some therapy after everything that's happened tbh. Perhaps a hug, and reassurances that everything will, in fact, end up just fine, and that she's done enough to work toward the goal of everyone together again. Once everyone is safe and where they should be will she be content; even if it means Noel goes back to his time and she loses her best friend, but if he can also be happy, well... that would make her happy, too. Everyone't happiness is her own, and that's something she'll always want... and need.
